Have you always wanted to be a zookeeper? Well here is your opportunity!!!
Utah’s Hogle Zoo and the Utah Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers is excited to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with a zookeeper for a day. What is your favorite animal? You can work with a wide variety of animals including giraffes, small primates, hoofstock, small mammals, birds, small cats, reptiles, and even butterflies! You will work side by side the keepers and animals, providing fun enrichment toys, observing training sessions, as well as animal behavior. You will be given one on one opportunities to touch a penguin, feed a giraffe, and see some of our wildlife ambassador animals up close and personal.
For $150 (non-members) and $125 (members) you too can be a zookeeper for a day! (Program runs from 8am-1pm). Remember, zookeeping can be a rewarding but strenuous and dirty job- be sure to come prepared. Lunch is provided, along with photo opportunities with the animals, keeper for a day t-shirt, and an experience you will not forget!!! Participants must be at least 18 years old.
For more information call (801) 584-1784 or email us at utahaazk@hoglezoo.org . All proceeds from this fundraiser go toward AAZK projects related to education, conservation and welfare initiatives.

The Utah Chapter of AAZK hosted our 10th annual Cheetah Cha-Cha event on Saturday, August 18th at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. This “cha-cha” fundraiser, which benefits the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) in Africa, raised over $1200 this year! The CCF brings conservation issues and environmental education to local Africans as well as people all over the world. The Utah Chapter has raised over $15,000 for the CCF over the last decade. Former zoo employee and chapter member, Mary Wykstra, became CCF’s representative in Kenya in 2001, launching a data collection project on farmland issues affecting the cheetah in Kenya, so this is a project close to our hearts. Visitors learned about how they can help the cheetah’s plight, listened to music and story telling, enjoyed face painting, played games, and had the opportunity to purchase cheetah merchandise and beautiful African handicrafts.

If you have any questions about CCF, our Cheetah Cha-Cha event or are interested in making a donation, please contact us at utahaazk@hoglezoo.org or (801) 584-1784.
