(Salt Lake City, UT) - It's time to get your party on with Mother Earth at the wildest spot in town—granola is optional.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums is throwing a party; over one hundred parties throughout the country. Salt Lake City's version of AZA's Party for the Planet takes place at Utah's Hogle Zoo for a Spring Break Earth Day celebration Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year, Hogle Zoo is Partying for the Planet Spring Break-style, where visitors can escape to the tropics without even bringing a passport! Vacation Guides will be available to help visitors plan their day's activities as they explore the Zoo for booths, animal enrichment and up close animal presentations; Live music and entertainment will complete your escape to the tropics without breaking the bank! Hogle Zoo's keepers will also be on hand throughout the day talking about how keeping green affects animals around the globe.

the Planet Activities:
11 am to noon - Sunshine Generation in Hogle Zoo's Main Plaza;
A local children's performance group ready to greet Zoo visitors

11 am to 2 pm - Atomic Amy in Hogle Zoo's Oasis Plaza;
A local rock cover band playing your classic rock favorites to help ramp up your Spring Break

This year’s Party for the Planet at Hogle Zoo will feature a booth focusing on why it is important to recycle cell phones and other electronic devices. This is a great day for people to drop off those old devices because it's good for the environment and helps the gorilla population in the wild. "Cell phones contain a mineral called coltan that is found in the same parts of the African Congo where gorillas are found. Mining of this mineral in those areas is causing habitat destruction and killing of gorillas for bush-meat," said Hogle Zoo Conservation Coordinator Liz Larsen. "By recycling cell phones, the coltan can be harvested so miners don't have to go out into the wild to get it-- and that stops something like 10,000 illegal miners who are actually going into protected parks."
