HOGLE ZOO ANNOUNCES NAME FOR NEW BABY ELEPHANT

Posted On Wednesday, September 16, 2009

(Salt Lake City, UT) –After weeks of voting on a name for Hogle Zoo's new baby elephant, visitors have picked the clear winner as Zuri (meaning "adorable" or "beautiful").

Out of almost ten-thousand votes received at Hogle Zoo and at Sizzler and Red Robin restaurants, Zuri picked up nearly half. The name was announced Tuesday morning on Hogle Zoo's Facebook page and through "tweets" on Twitter, as well as a website: babyzuriblog.com where people can go to read regular updates on Baby Zuri.

“The community has been extremely supportive of the baby elephant from Christie’s pregnancy through birth,” said Hogle Zoo Community Relations Coordinator Holly Braithwaite. “We wanted people to voice their opinion on a name and the final decision was clearly the overwhelming winner.”

A ballot will be drawn from the group of winning votes for someone who will win gift baskets from both Hogle Zoo and Sizzling Platter restaurants.
