AZA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO PRESENT HOGLE ZOO AND TRACY AVIARY WITH ACCREDITATION HONORS

Posted On Monday, October 19, 2009

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Tuesday October 20 Kris Vehrs, Executive Director of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), will be in Salt Lake recognizing both Hogle Zoo and Tracy Aviary for the high honors of achieving accreditation. Vehrs will give a formal presentation to the Salt Lake County Council at 4 pm, and another to the Salt Lake City Council at 7 pm, on what it means to receive accreditation, as well as talk about the immense amount of conservation work put forth by the two institutions.

During these presentations, both County and City Councils will put forth resolutions recognizing Tracy Aviary and Hogle Zoo for not only achieving national recognition through accreditation by the AZA, but also for the work they do in educating the local public and helping with conservation locally and globally. This is significant because accreditation means that both of these organizations have the utmost level of excellence; there are only 221 accredited zoos and aquariums throughout North America, and it is extremely prestigious to have two institutions right here in Salt Lake City.
