World Elephant Day & Zuri´s Birthday

Date: August 9, 2014

Start Time: 10:00 am
End Time: 2:00 pm

Zuri is growing up! Our baby elephant Zuri has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. Now weighing more than 3,000 pounds, she's about to have her 5th birthday!

Her birthday (August 9th) happens to be close to World Elephant Day (August 12th), so we are combining both events into one celebration of elephants on August 9th!

While we're busy celebrating elephants, did you know elephants in the wild still need our help? Ninety Six elephants are still killed everyday in Africa, and the ivory trade is still going strong, even here in the USA. Yikes!

Here's what you can do to help:

• Have your little ones print and color this coloring sheet to show their love of elephants.

• Sign this petition to urge legislators to ban ivory sales.

• Send a letter to our legislators asking them to BAN ivory sales in Utah. Use this template to get started.

Wear Gray in support of 96 Elephants and get $2 off regular zoo admission. and the Wildlife Conservation Society are encouraging the public to take a stand. Utah's Hogle Zoo would like to collect 960 coloring pages to be able to send to our policy makers. So color your picture, and come drop it by Guest Services the next time you visit the Zoo! And be sure to come by on August 9th for our celebration of Zuri's birthday and World Elephant Day.
