Range:

Central and South America.

Habitat:

Rain forest, high in trees.

Characteristics:

They are good fliers. Have pointed tails. The face is bare of feathers in most cases. The upper bill is hinged. Two toes face forward, two face backward. This helps in feeding and climbing.

 

Behavior:

They are very gregarious and territorial. Their call is harsh, grating and unpleasant.

Reproduction:

Monogamous. They nest inside hollow trees. Nesting material is rarely used. Incubation is 28 to 35 days on two to three white eggs. Young are blind, naked, and require nest care for two to three months. Sexual maturity is reached at about three years.
