Range:

Found only in Utah Lake and the lower Provo River.

Habitat:

Shallow lakes and tributaries.

Characteristics:

Large, robust body. Has a wide, rounded head with a distinct hump on the snout. Blackish or brownish above in color with white on the belly.

 

Behavior:

Spawn in June. They travel 5 miles up the Provo River to the Tanner Flats Diversion to spawn in the shallow riffles above course gravel and cobblestones. During spawning, they develope distinctive white stripes along the side of  their bodies.

Reproduction:

Incubation period is 10 days.
