Hogle Zoo is in an exciting time of growth and enhancement. We have set
a course for a public-private cooperative effort to ensure that our Master
Plan is fulfilled. Crucial to the success of our next phase are private
contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations.
Completed Master Plan projects to date include the Asian Highlands, Elephant Encounter, the Wildlife Theatre and Entry Plaza.
The next three priorities in the Renew The Zoo campaign are:
- Oasis Plaza & Conservation Carousel

A themed public plaza to be the focus of visitor activity in the center of
the Zoo, Oasis Plaza will highlight a new Conservation Carousel. The
carousel will feature 42 hand-carved, hand-painted wild animals. To sponsor a carousel animal, click here (LINK COMING SOON). The Plaza will also include new guest amenities including a new food area with decked seating overlooking Emigration Creek. Opening spring, 2008.
- Animal Health Center

A completely new, state-of-the-art animal care center, it will be equipped and staffed to provide an unprecedented level of care for all the Zoo's nearly 900 animals. (Slated to open in fall, 2009).
- Arctic Exhibit

This will be an extensive arctic-themed, multi-animal habitat featuring
polar bears and other Arctic species. It will highlight the effects of
climate change in this fascinating yet fragile region. A major step in the Zoo's transformation, the new Arctic Exhibit, will occupy approximately four acres at the west end of the Zoo. With sufficient space to house up to five polar bears, Hogle Zoo hopes to one day breed these threatened and beloved animals. Several large viewing areas will permit visitors to observe polar bears on land and under water, with glass walls the only barrier between themselves and these magnificent creatures. (Opening date contingent on funding).
