Golden Lion Tamarin Twins

Posted On Sunday, May 10, 2009

The golden lion tamarin is one of the most endangered of all primates and this birth is very significant for the future of these animals. The babies were born as a part of the Species Survival Plan, a cooperative population management and conservation program for selected species in zoos and aquariums in North America. This program ensures that captive populations of animals, like the golden lion tamarins, survive and contribute to reintroduction programs for years to come.

The parents and babies are on exhibit together in the Golden Lion Tamarin exhibit near Primate Forest.
