Baby Colobus Monkey

Posted On Thursday, December 09, 2010

A threatened Eastern black and white Colobus monkey was born at Utah's Hogle Zoo early Thursday morning, December 9th. The baby, whose sex is still unknown at this time, was born to Hogle Zoo Colobus monkeys, Toledo and Henry. For now the baby is stark white against its mother's black fur but soon will begin to develop its black fur, white mantle and long tail. Toledo is a very good mom and both mom and baby are doing great.

The Colobus are part of the Zoo Species Survival Plan (SSP), a cooperative program among zoos to maintain genetic diversity within populations of endangered animals.
