Celebrate International Polar Bear Day with the zoo. Utah’s Hogle Zoo is one of only a dozen accredited zoos with polar bears. Caring for polar bears gives us all the opportunity to learn more about protecting the species in the wild. Join keepers at the Rocky Shores exhibit for special animal demonstrations and presentations about resident polar bears, Nikita and Neva, and Hogle Zoo’s conservation partner, Polar Bears International.
Follow Utah's Hogle Zoo on social media to see the daily schedule and learn about the fantastic resident animals.
Polar bears are considered marine mammals due to the amount of time they spend on sea ice, where they hunt for food. Polar bears cannot successfully hunt, mate, or raise cubs without expansive sea ice.
There are only around 25,000 polar bears left in their natural habitat today. Polar bears were listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act in May 2008. This listing was based on the loss of sea ice in the arctic region threatening, and continuing to threaten, polar bear habitat.
Together, we can make a difference. #SaveTheSeaIce #WeSupportPolarBears
