We want to extend a huge, heartfelt thank you to all those who applied to Utah’s Hogle Zoo Wonders of Wildlife Mural Project. We were genuinely moved by both the number and quality of submissions we received. More than 350 artists applied, and reviewing each proposal was thoughtful, energizing, and a powerful reminder of how much talent, care, and personal investment exists well beyond what we’re able to support at any one time.
Congratulations to the following artists!
Mackenzie Donovan
David Malan
Scott Lance
Kruttika Susarla
Chris Peterson
These artists will commence work on grounds during zoo hours on Monday, May 11 and each mural should be complete by the end of May. We encourage guests to come observe this incredible opportunity of art in action.
For those artists not selected, we hope this is not goodbye. The zoo values creativity and connection, and we would love to stay aware of your work as future opportunities arise. Our hope is that this mural project is just the beginning of many ways we can engage with the creative community.
Thank you again to all those who have been engaged and supportive of this new creative endeavor!
Utah’s Hogle Zoo invites Utah professional artists to lend their vision to one of Utah’s most beloved spaces. Thanks to a generous grant from the Utah Arts & Museums and National Endowment for the Arts, we are commissioning five original murals to be painted on zoo grounds — celebrating the intersection of art, community, and wildlife. This is a rare opportunity to create lasting, large-scale work that inspires wonder in visitors of all ages while championing the animals we work so hard to protect.
This project is supported in part by Utah Arts & Museums, with funding from the State of Utah and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Project Theme: Wonders of Wildlife
Artist Compensation: $5,000–$10,000 (based on mural location and square footage). All materials costs will be covered separately from artist compensation.
