More Room to Roam
African Savanna Expansion Project
Shaped by master planning, the More Room to Roam project at Utah’s Hogle Zoo will advance care for African Savanna residents and transform the guest experience by enhancing animal wellbeing, adding year-round guest viewing spaces, and increasing capacity in the outdoor habitat.
Starting Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the giraffes, zebras, and ostrich will move into the current barn and adjacent outdoor yards for the duration of construction.

Winter is here, and so are new reasons to visit Utah’s Hogle Zoo. From seasonal experiences to cozy habitats and wintertime moments with animals in our care, the zoo is a fun place to spend a chilly day. Whether you’re planning a quick visit or a full afternoon of exploring, winter at the zoo offers plenty to discover.
Swing by and see baby Bornean orangutan Weila with her foster mom Acara. Look closely, Weila’s hair blends into Acara’s, and they often rest on high shelves or in hammocks.

Summer Animal Care
When temperatures rise, animal care at Utah’s Hogle Zoo kicks into summer mode. From polar bears to porcupines, our care teams adapt routines to keep animals cool, comfortable, and thriving in warmer weather. If you and your herd are looking to cool off while exploring Hogle Zoo, visit the Rocky Shores Splash Pad, grab a cool treat at the Beastro, or beat the heat in Wild Utah’s Norma W.
